By law, retail outlets have to display a price for all goods but nearly all shops except for major department stores are willing to bargain. Sales are quite common in Malaysia so there are plenty of bargains around.
The development of new shopping malls has brought an increased number of shops with good quality products frequently at surprisingly low prices. Langkawi is a duty free island although the range of products is not as good as one would hope. However if you combine a vacation trip with a little shopping it is well worth the visit.
